Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) made it clear that the House
Democratic Leadership will force a vote soon on the Senate-passed health bill
(H.R. 3590), including multiple abortion-related provisions strongly opposed
by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) and other pro-life
organizations, and will not include pro-life language in any followup
legislation. VOTE ON THE HEALTH On abortion policy, the health care bill that Speaker Nancy Pelosi brought to the House floor last November was extremely bad (before the House fixed it by adopting the Stupak-Pitts Amendment) -- but the Senate health bill (H.R. 3590) is worse. SENATE HEALTH PRO-ABORTION IF MODIFIED BY Any member of Congress who votes for the final legislation proposed by President Obama will be voting for direct federal funding of elective abortion through Community Health Centers, and also an array of other pro-abortion federal subsidies and mandates.
